The WiFi is now our indoor data traffic officer, with a permanent corner booked in our homes or offices. Even when you use a mobile device with its own data connection, sooner or later you’re going to need a WiFi router while sitting on your couch at home.

Your laptop and other devices would need to talk to a WiFi network too. And then you will have to worry about how to get the best WiFi 6 router among the competing lot, the market has to offer.

Important WiFi 6 Router Features to Consider

You don’t have to study any rocket science principles or advanced nuclear physics to be able to pick a good WiFi 6 router. Just know what your needs are, the devices you have, check the specifications of each router and try to understand how routers work. What you really need to know is how performant and advantageous can a WiFi 6 router be.

Must use the latest WiFi technology

Make sure 802.11ax is the base technology. This is the WiFi 6 standard which uses the 5 GHz band exclusively. It is capable of providing a multi-station throughput of 1 Gbps minimum, as well as a single-station throughput of 500 Mbps.

This is, in theory, enough to take care of 60 YouTube videos, all playing at the same time. Also check for use of emerging technologies like MU-MIMO, OFDMA, and QAM.

Must have powerful WiFi coverage

WiFi signals within the home or office usually depend to a great extent on the size of the room and the barriers on the way.

Chimneys, pillars, mirrors, passages, and thick walls are familiar obstacles that usually block WiFi signals. So, while selecting a router, check for long reach.

Should handle a higher number of devices

The best WiFi 6 routers should be able to handle up to 64 connecting devices at once. If you are interested in further extensions, you may consider buying a WiFi that has a mesh network. This would allow the WiFi to be extended across the entire office complex.

Should implement strong WiFi security

Check the security features of your proposed purchase. Is it tight enough to discourage cybercriminals? Can strangers penetrate the network, install malware, intercept data, or listen to a conversation that is transmitted? Hackers work with a variety of tools to gain access to sensitive and critical information. There should be strong protection against attacks at the point of entry into the network. Firewalls, parental control, automatic updates, and device quarantine can be implemented for enhanced security.

Should be fast and have Smart Scan

Speed is of vital importance when it comes to data transmission. So, check the transmission rate. Smart Scan is very useful in detecting problems in the network.

A router that regularly performs smart scan would monitor connections and even switch channels to correct problems or reboot automatically to avert danger.

With these facts considered, let’s now go to the market and check what we have there. What are the best WiFi 6 routers?
